The Florida Department of Transportation requires agencies who purchase vehicles with state and/or federal funds to maintain their vehicles by conducting routine preventative maintenance using proactive maintenance practices. These maintenance requirements, defined by FDOT as minimum maintenance requirements, are intended to ensure optimal safety and cost efficiency for riders, the agency, and the Department. The Preventative Maintenance Standards Manual describes these minimum maintenance requirements and provides recommendations for implementing and maintaining a successful preventative maintenance program.
Florida’s public transit providers are encouraged to use this document when developing any service agreement with such vendors in order to specifically outline the agency’s expectations and to ensure that the agency is complying with state and federal maintenance requirements.
